Based on a line of books from the 1980s by Steve Jackson, the “Sorcery!” game series has proven to be quite popular; so popular that a third sequel was announced from game developer Inkle titled “Sorcery! 3: The Seven Serpents.” The game was originally previewed in GDC 2015 and was considered by many to be one of the more impressive titles in the show.

As can be seen from the trailer below, “Sorcery! 3” plays out like a roleplaying game mixed in with some game book elements, with its good amount of exploration that can be done and the amount of battles that can be had. The game also has an open world and uses its text in a dynamic and visually interesting way to tell its story.

While the game will keep the game book elements from the previous two “Sorcery!” games, it will also have one new element that should interest players: time travel. A report from Pocket Gamer has confirmed that time travel will play a big part in the new game, as puzzle solving becomes just as important as exploration.

Touch Arcade was able to have a hands-on impression with the game, which led to some impressive results. The game was praised right away for using the medium of mobile gaming in an interesting way while also keeping some of the elements that made the first two games such big hits.

Game developer Inkle isn’t exactly new to the game book style of gameplay. The developer released a mobile game called “80 Days” last year and it was considered by many to be a fantastic mobile title, garnering an impressive total score of 88 from Metacritic. The game was set in a steampunk version of 1872 and used similar game book elements, along with plenty “Choose your own Adventure” style choices.

“Sorcery! 3: The Seven Serpents” is set for an April 23 release date later this month, though a price for the game hasn’t been given yet. This magical adventure will be available for both iOS and Android devices and will also be playable on Amazon’s Kindle Fire.
