Even though a lot of fans claimed they were scarred from the scene of Sansa being raped on “Game of Thrones” episode entitled “Unbowed, Unbent and Unbroken,” Sophie Turner, the actress who played the role, said she secretly loved doing the scene. The actress shared that the scene was “ so messed up,” it made her love to do it.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sophie Turner shared her views on the controversial scene that got people up in arms. Some were denouncing the show because it featured sexual violence in a whole new level but Sophie said she personally loved to do the scene. First of all, she said the storyline of Sansa on that episode was so sick that it was quite “exciting.” She cited her character’s messed-up relationship with Theon Greyjoy and how the relationship became even messier with Theon watching her get raped by her husband, Ramsay. She said it was daunting for her to carry out the terrible scene, but she loved it secretly. "I've been making [producer Bryan Cogman] feel so bad for writing that scene: 'I can't believe you're doing this to me!' But I secretly loved it," she said.

Even if she loved doing the scene, it does not mean she agreed with Sansa’s fate. She said she agree with fans who got so riled up that Sansa’s supposed escape from her former evil husband, Joffrey did not end up with her in the arms of a better man and a worse thing was planned out for her. "I completely agree with them!" Turner said.

beyond the scene however, Sansa claimed that the whole season is going to be challenging for her. She said she would not be confined to doing “crying” scenes anymore, but so much more “messed up” things.

Even though “Game of Thrones” is no stranger to criticisms and shocked emotions because of its constant and quite callous depiction of violence, including sexual violence, many were really enraged with Sansa’s rape scene and threatened to boycott the show. The rape scene, even though not really showed to the viewers, can be heard and gleaned from the cries Sansa were making and Theon’s pained reactions as he watches. Those who got really angry believe the scene unnecessary, especially since no such scene can be read from the original books of George R.R. Martin. In the book, Ramsay violated another character. Aside from this, many believe that the scene trivialised rape because the show just cannot stop depicting it any chance it gets.
