At the MWC 2015 event, Sony failed to introduce the heavily-rumoured flagship device, the Xperia Z4. However, the company did unveil the ultra-thin Xperia Z4 Tablet and the budget-friendly Xperia M4 Aqua smartphone. But then, Sony's Vice President of Global Communications and PR, Tim Harrison, has apparently confirmed that the Sony Xperia Z4 will indeed be released this year.

According to Trusted Reviews, apart from confirming the existence of the Xperia Z4, the Sony VP did not provide any information on the release date of the device. On the other hand, he reportedly confirmed that the tech giant has not moved to the one-year product release cycle as rumoured earlier. Therefore, the Sony Xperia Z4 release date could be before September, as the Xperia Z3 from 2014 was also released at the same time frame.

When speaking about the 2014 Xperia Z3, Harrison apparently told Trusted Reviews that, the Xperia Z3 series of devices namely the flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z3 Compact and the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact are doing well in various markets. And apparently, the Z3 devices are still in demand and attract a lot of interest from customers. The Sony VP also noted that, from the time the Z3 hit the store shelves, the company has taken various measures to keep the device up-to-date. This reportedly includes the recent introduction of the PS4 Remote Play, enhancements to camera themes and additional camera apps.

In the meantime, Sony VP for Western Europe, Pierre Perron, apparently told The Inquirer that, the delay in the introduction of the Xperia Z4 was intentional. He reportedly added that, the company will not launch a device for the sake of it.

Perron apparently said to The Inquirer, “The innovation is not so much about launching and announcing a flagship with more and more megapixels and so on, it's about how can you make consumers' lives more innovative and more relevant as we go forward.” Furthermore, he elaborated that Sony is concentrating on delivering uniqueness to the brand offerings like the Sony Lounge. It is not about the beautiful hardware anymore, but about expanding consumer experience outside the scope of technology, he added.

As far as the rumoured Sony Xperia Z4 specifications go, the handset will reportedly be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor and the resolution of the device will be 1080p. In addition, there will also be a second variant with a Quad HD resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels, notes Phone Arena. Nonetheless, the company has not confirmed the Sony Xperia Z4 specifications and release date thus far.
