Users of Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and Xperia ZR can now enjoy the new Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Sony Mobile confirms the new software at its official Web site which now also includes the changelogs for the update.

Android 4.4.4 KitKat For Sony Xperia Z Series

Sony has initiated the rollout of Android 4.4.4. KitKat for Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and Xperia ZR. It was spotted primarily on the Xperia Tablet Z LTE SGP321 via Vodafone in Europe and network carriers in Belgium. Similar to the Xperia Tablet Z firmware update, the Android 4.4.4 KitKat carries the 10.5.1.A.0.283 build version, delivering various changes noted below:

- Android 4.4.4 KitKat upgrade

- Improved battery performance in some background applications

- Enhanced email stability and performance

- General upgrades to MMS, Calendar, Wi-Fi, Contacts and more

- Latest bug fixes and improvements from Sony Mobile

According to reports from XperiaBlog, Android 4.4.4 KitKat for Sony Xperia Z is now rolling out in France via SFR. Users around the world will soon receive the new firmware as the update rolls out gradually.

Future Updates

Android L is expected to be released before 2014 ends and will be available to several Sony Xperia devices.

Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z have received four major software updates within the entire life cycle as of date. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was the factory OS followed by an Android 4.2 update in 2013.

In December 2013, these devices received Android 4.3 Jelly Bean along with the Smart Social Camera feature. In May 2014, Sony Mobile rolled out Android 4.4.2 KitKat, which is now upgradable to Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS.
