The Sony Xperia XZ Premium has a display quality that is better than most TVs. The 5.5-inch smartphone will be the first in the world to have a 4K HDR Display, and the device was unveiled this week at the MWC 2017 in Barcelona, Spain. Sony has even partnered with Amazon Prime to provide its users a selection of 4K HDR content. The new display on the XZ Premium will allow its users to enjoy the content in its purest form. The smartphone’s predecessors were capable of capturing 4K footage but the files had to be exported to a 4K device for viewing.

According to News.com.au, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium is also able to capture super-slow motion videos too, another world-first, apart from the 4K HDR Display. There are many devices that can capture slow motion videos at 240fps. The XZ Premium is way ahead of them as it can capture videos at 960fps. The slow-motion capture can also be turned on and off while recording videos. This enables the users to have slow-mo captures only for those parts that they want. Then there’s the Predictive Capture function that makes it easier to take moving shots.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium’s Predictive Capture function detects slow motion and captures up to four photos a second before the shutter button is clicked. Sony has decided to keep the headphone jack. USB Type-C connectivity, IP65/68 certification and 64GB internal storage are some of the specs the smartphone is endowed with. Battery capacity is of 3,230 mAh and there is Quick Charge 3.0. The Xperia XZ Premium is slightly thinner than its predecessor. According to Gizmodo Australia, the Sony smartphone will also be the first 1,000mbps phone in Australia.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium’s will run a Qualcomm X16 LTE modem alongside its Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 quad-core CPU. This theoretically means 1,000mbps download speed. The phone will reportedly surpass Google Pixel, which is currently considered the king of download speed. In other MWC 2017 news, Lenovo’s Motorola brand has unveiled the highly-anticipated Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus smartphones. The G5 handset runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC whereas the Plus version has Snapdragon 625 SoC.

The Moto G5 Plus 2GB RAM/32GB storage model is priced at $229, the 3GB RAM/32GB variant is priced at around €279 (AU$390 approx). The price of the third variant is not yet known. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium could very well become a fan favourite because of its impressive specs and power-packed performance.
