Samsung Galaxy Note 3 owners will be pleased to hear that the Korean tech giant is working on the Android 5.0 Lollipop update release.

According to a report by AndroidPIT, Google's biggest Android yet will be making its way slowly to several of Samsung's devices which now include the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3. While Samsung and other carriers have not provided the exact date, it may not be long before the official firmware is released.

Nonetheless, for those who cannot wait for the over-the-air release, an Android 5.0 Lollipop custom ROM is also available. The update is accessible through XDA developers. It requires 1.1GB space offering the newest edition of the Samsung's Touchwiz interface. The custom firmware is compatible with the Note 3 SM-N9005 (N9505XXUGBNL8) device therefore users are advised to check compatibility first.

As for Sony Xperia devices, Android Headlines reports that users can download the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop firmware nightly port. One week before Christmas, there were reports about the Sony Xperia 2 and the Sony Xperia Z3 to receive Android Lollipop around early 2015. Sony provided the details via its Twitter account. This assured people that the company has been working on bringing the firmware to its Z2 and Z3 lines.

However, for those who cannot wait for the official release then they can turn the Free Xperia Development (FXP) team. According to the team's announcement, they have been working on a nightly ASOP support for an unoffical version of the original Lollipop. Some of the devices in line are: Sony Xperia E3, Xperia M2, Xperia T2 Ultra and the Xperia T3.

As for the Z range, the devices in line are the Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact. Other Sony devices supported as well include the Xperia Z2 and the Xperia Z2 Tablet.
