Sony Xperia M5 and Xperia C5 Ultra are now official and offer mainstream camera technology for selfie lovers. However, there are some weaknesses on both smartphones when compared to their predecessors.

Sony Xperia M5 Now Official: 21.5 MP Main Camera With Hybrid Autofocus Feature

Sony Mobile finally announced the new Xperia M5 waterproof smartphone. It offers a powerful 21.5 MP Exmor RS main camera which features Hybrid Autofocus to capture moving subjects, up to five times Clear Image Zooming that retains image quality under zoom, Automatic Scene Recognition for optimized setting and 4K video recording. It has a 13 MP Exmor RS front camera for selfie lovers with autofocus and High Dynamic Range imaging technology.

Android 5.0 Lollipop is the default software version powered by MediaTek Helio X10 64-bit octa-core processor with clock speed of 2.0 GHz and IMG Rogue G6200 for graphics. Other technical specifications of Xperia M5 include 3 GB of RAM, up to 16 GB internal storage with support for a memory card of up to 200 GB and a 2600 mAh battery pack.

If compared to the Xperia M4 Aqua’s main and rear camera units, Xperia M5 does not offer wide-angle lenses to capture more subjects. Both smartphones have the IP65 and IP68 certifications offering dust-tight and waterproof traits.

Sony Xperia C5 Ultra Announced: Thin Bezel Display With Selfie Cameras

Along with Xperia M5, Sony announced the Xperia C5 Ultra which seems to be a hybrid of Xperia C4 and Xperia T2 Ultra. Xperia C5 Ultra sports a 13 MP Exmor RS main camera with Automatic Scene Recognition, soft LED flash, autofocus, HDR mode and video stabilizer while its front camera is a 13 MP Exmor RS sensor with 22 mm wide-angle lens offering similar features like the main camera.

While the cameras offer great imaging for various situations, Xperia C5 Ultra also boasts a 6.0 inches of screen with very thin bezel and 1080p resolution. It also has the Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 to improve the display quality.

There are some downsides on Xperia C5 Ultra which include the lack of Triluminos engine on top of BRAVIA to further enhance display quality and its 2930 mAh battery pack that is slightly lower than the 3000 mAh of Xperia T2 Ultra. Sony could have disregarded the Triluminos and added the two-day battery technology to prolong usage of the 6.0 inches display screen.
