Sony just gave the PlayStation 4 a colourful makeover. Now PS4 gamers who want a pop of color on their gaming console have nine HDD base covers - of different colours - to choose from.

Sony made the announcement about these swappable face plates during the recent Tokyo Game Show press conference. According to the announcement reported by TechTimes, PS4 gamers can choose from white, blue, black, violet, hot poink, silver, neon, gold and red. However, only seven of these colours (gold and silver will follow) will be available when the upgraded devices are launched.

In addition to the swappable base covers, Sony will also be releasing four new colours for the controller. This way, the controller can also be matched with the selected face plate.

Although some PS4 gamers might be surprised with Sony's decision to revamp the console colour-wise, this move was actually hinted by the company last December.

"Customise your PS4 system with Project Skylight Beta collectible face plates," as stated in PlayStation's official web page. "Made in special Limited Edition designs and available for just a short time, face plates are the best way to personalise your PS4 system."

It must be noted, though, that the face plates that were previously hinted appeared to be tie-ins with some of the games that were launched at the time, such as "The Order: 1886," "LittleBigPlanet 3," and "Bloodborne."

However, Sony has confirmed that this time around, the face plates will not be part of any tie-in and will be representing solid colours. With nine base covers to choose from, PS4 gamers can mix and match up to 36 different colour combinations. This way, it may look like they have 36 unique gaming consoles to enjoy.

As previously mentioned, Sony also confirmed that there will be four new colours for the DualShock 4 controller. The new colours are transparent crystal, silver, steel black and gold.
