Xperia Z2 and Z3 Android 5.1.1 update will roll out as Sony confirms the release of the software. According to the company's Japanese subsidiary, people should expect the release around later this month.

Fortunately for Xperia users wondering when they should be expecting the Android 5.1.1 update, the software was certified already meaning access should just be in a matter of weeks. According to Xperia Blog, the soonest should be this July with official confirmation from Sony Japan.

As with other updates previously, Japan often rolls out or processes firmware updates later compared to other markets across the globe. Nonetheless, Sony appears intent to speed up its process this time. The company also released a changelog detailing Android 4.4.4 KitKat to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

Many people might be familiar with the detailed changes because of the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop release though there are still notable changes. For one, people will now have additional Wi-Fi and Bluetootth options under the notification menu. For instance, users can now select a wireless network. There will also be new icons under the settings menu. For more information, Sony Japan has posted up the details of the upcoming software update.

For those who cannot wait for the official firmware to come, there are custom ROMs available as options. However, users may need to flash their devices to accommodate the firmware. Any warranties will also be voided. It is best to understand the rooting process before proceeding to the installation of the custom ROM.

Aside from the Android 5.1.1, Google has also been working on its Android M software update. According to the latest details, the upcoming firmware should be getting native visual voicemail. Release should be at the latter part of the year. There are no final schedules released to the roll out on other devices such as the Xperia line.
