News of Zayn Malik’s exit from One Direction in March took the Internet by storm. Many fans were left devastated and even his fellow band members were also saddened. Reports claimed Malik quit because he wanted to be closer to his fiancée, Perrie Edwards. However, the band’s songwriter Jamie Scott revealed a different reason why Zayn Malik had quit One Direction.

According to Mirror UK, Jamie Scott told the Sunday People that it was the constant touring that made Zayn Malik quit One Direction. The band reportedly mostly toured in almost all of four years, which meant he was rarely home with his family. “Zayn went because he’d had enough,” Scott said.

Jamie Scott, who wrote the band’s biggest hits including “Story of My Life” and “Night Changes, revealed that Zayn Malik eventually reached that point where finally realised for himself that he no longer wants to be a part of One Direction after the endless touring. “It was that simple, it was human instinct kicking in,” he further revealed. “People want it to be complicated and have secret reasons but that is what it was,” he added.

According to UK’s OK Magazine, Scott’s revelation came after fellow One Direction singer Liam Payne suggested that Zayn Malik had quit in favour of his fiancée Perrie Edwards. The 22-year old was reportedly feeing the pressures of his commitment with the Little Mix singer.

The publication claimed Liam revealed during an interview with Capital Radio that Malik had trouble balancing his busy tour schedule with his personal life. Liam said Zayn wanted to spend more time with his family and with Perrie Edwards, thus he had quit One Direction. Apparently, it still boils down to the endless tours as being the main reason for Malik’s exit from the band.

Following his exit in March, Zayn Malik had said he left One Direction because he wanted to live the life of a normal 22-year old. He also didn’t want to be under the spotlight anymore. Liam Payne revealed in the same Capital Radio interview that his fellow band members understand Zayn's reasons for quitting the band.
