The U.S. Open tennis tournament at Flushing Meadows, New York has Ball boys sporting shirts woven with sensors and circuits that will send health information to the tournament officials. This is a smart move made by the company manufacturing the wearable to market the product.

Ralph Lauren designed the shirt with the bio sensor company OMsignal. Ralph will release the full line of smart clothing in 2015. In an interview with the New York Times, David Lauren, the Marketing and Communication director of Ralph Lauren company who is also the son of the designer, said that the line will include both sportswear as well as classic dress shirts. He also went on to add that everybody is trying out wearables such as smartwatches, headbands and sneakers, so the company decided to bring out something new: a line of smart clothes.

The line of smart clothes is woven with silver-coated conductive thread that contains ECG, breathing sensor, accelerometer and gyroscope. These smart tools record information into the shirt's black box and relay the information to a smartphone app that will display the wearer's heartbeat, breathing, stress levels and energy outputs.

The smart shirt looks and feels like a regular shirt without any chunky gadgets. The look is modern and fashionable. It can be washed in a washing machine. It is available in two colours, black and white; and it fits the body snugly.

It keeps track and manages the activity level of a person such as the amount of calories burned and the number of steps walked. It also tells the time spent in activity and rest. It will also nudge the wearer if he has been in a long period of inactivity, encouraging the wearer to look and feel better throughout the day.

The shirt has a breathing alert that signifies whether the breathing is shallow; furthermore, it provides breathing techniques for concentration and relaxation.

The shirts are made for everyday use as well as for fitness purposes. The fitness range is priced between $199 to $359 and $79 for the regular wear. It is a step forward in the health industry and personal monitoring kit that gives all the information a person needs to know to keep him healthy.

This shirt is geek-friendly and stylish. The range will be made available in 2015 but can be pre ordered on the Omsignal Website.
