Many fans were disappointed with the news of the cancellation of Konami’s next horror-game “Silent Hills.” However, months after the cancellation, an easter egg has been discovered in “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain” which pays tribute to the popular playable teaser, or P.T., for “Silent Hills.”

Konami’s horror experiment P.T. has been very popular with new and old fans of the “Silent Hills” series. The story of the P.T. revolves around an unknown protagonist as he explores a seemingly endless hallway of a house where a murder has taken place. The gruesome murder was revealed through a radio report at the beginning of the P.T. YouTube channel Arekkz Gaming recently discovered that this chilling radio report is also played in “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.”

In “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," there's a cassette player inside a tent at the Ngumba Industrial Zone located at the Angola-Zaire Border. When activated, it will play the exact news report that was heard in the P.T. However, the radio news announcer’s voice is not distorted in that version and it is easier to understand the report. Meanwhile, throughout the P.T., parts of the report were taken and played on loop like a chant throughout the game.

In the video below, Arrekz Gaming explains how to unlock the easter egg. He also details what players will encounter if they search for the cassette player. It seems Arrekz Gaming was the first to have made the discovery as fans flooded the comment section on YouTube with shock.

Hideo Kojima has been known to insert easter eggs in his games, and this is not the first time that “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain” made a reference to a P.T. Last year, Gamespot discovered that the ghost found in a P.T., Lisa, could be used as a weapon by Big Boss. Lisa could be used as an inflatable decoy for enemies standing near ledges.

Before being cancelled earlier this year, "Silent Hills" was slated to be a project of Kojima Productions. Konami even employed the help of director Guillermo Del Toro and “The Walking Dead” star Norman Reedus to produce the game. Although Konami gave no exact reason for the cancellation of the game, many speculate that it was due to the rift between Kojima and Konami. Del Toro was the first to break the bad news and he also confirmed that Kojima has left Konami.
