Fans of the hit platformer “Shovel Knight” have been blessed with a slew of big news recently. One of these is the announcement of a downloadable content, or DLC, named “Plague of Shadows,” which adds a new story, characters, enemies and levels for the base game. It seems fans have a reason to be happy once again as Nintendo recently announced a “Shovel Knight” amiibo which is set to feature a lot of benefits for the game.

Gamespot reports that players can level up the amiibo and customise its appearance in the game. Aside from that, the amiibo can also unlock new stages and a brand new coop mode. Nintendo also confirmed that all future add-ons to the base “Shovel Knight” game will be supported by the amiibo, which includes the upcoming “Plague of Shadows” DLC.

The amiibo was first seen in the official Twitter account of Game’s Brighton store. The tweet also detailed a Europe release date for the figurine, which is on Nov. 27. However, the tweet has now been deleted for unknown reasons. Luckily, Siliconera managed to save a screenshot of the tweet before it was deleted.

“Shovel Knight” is another addition to the list of third-party character amiibos. Others include Pac-Man, Mega Man and Ryu, all of which are playable characters in “Super Smash Bros.” With this, rumours that “Shovel Knight” may soon be an addition to the “Super Smash Bros.” roster surfaced once again.

In fact, “Shovel Knight” is currently one of the top contenders in Nintendo’s Fighter Poll, which allows fans to choose the next fighter to join the fray. If rumours are true, “Shovel Knight” could enter the roster at the same time the amiibo is released.
