“Sherlock” actor Benedict Cumberbatch has written a touching, open letter that was read at his fan’s funeral. “Sherlock” and Cumberbatch’s super-fan, Eve Shepherd, 14, reportedly died on Feb. 01 from breathing complications. The Oscar nominee’s letter was read out at the funeral of Eve, which was held at the Padgate Methodist Church, according to Warrington Guardian.

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that in the letter, “The Imitation Game” actor said that he wished he could have attended Eve’s funeral but cannot because he is “filming the show that she loved” watching. Cumberbatch offered his “deepest sympathies” to the girl’s family. He wrote, “To lose someone so young who fought for her health all her life must be beyond endurance.”

He also said in the letter that Eve’s support for “Sherlock” “shall be remembered” and is “hugely appreciated.” He ended the letter, with "God rest her soul. With all my love and sympathies, Benedict xxx.”

According to Warrington Guardian, Eve had been a fan of Sherlock Holmes for many years. Eve’s father Mark said that his daughter would be “so happy” about the letter from Cumberbatch. He said that Eve was a “huge fan.” Warrington Guardian has reported that the possession left the Church listening to “Sherlock” theme tune.

Cumberbatch has been filming the one-off, special episode of “Sherlock.” BBC or the producers of the hugely popular series have yet to officially confirm, but it is expected that this special episode, which features Dr Watson and Sherlock in Victorian get-up, is likely to air on Christmas this year. It is expected that the special episode will reveal the reason behind Moriarty’s re-appearance.

At 2015 Oscars, Cumberbatch failed to bag the best actor award. Eddie Redmayne took home the trophy for his role as Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everything.” "Sherlock" actor attended the 87th Academy Awards with his wife Sophie Hunter. Cumberbatch’s rep. recently confirmed that the two got married on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14. The newly married couple is expecting their first child together. There is still no news on when the production on “Sherlock” Season 4 will start.
