In the latter part of 2016, it was confirmed that “Shameless” will be renewed for a 12-episode season 8. But while this is the only official timeline at this point, star William H Macy has claimed that the show will actually go on for another four seasons.

During a panel for US network Showtime’s “Billions,” “Shameless” executive director and showrunner John Wells and star William H Macy took to the stage to speak about Macy’s character, Frank Gallagher. The 67-year-old actor is directing an episode of the upcoming episode of the season and even shared how difficult it was to do. He then added that he would have more opportunities because the series is going to run for another four more seasons.

“Oh you didn’t know?” he teased, as quoted by Deadline. “Keep it to yourself because Showtime doesn’t know yet.”

While the actor was just teasing the possibility, it is highly believable. The dark dramedy is one of the most successful shows of the network, and the story continues to grip its audience. Macy shared that he also enjoys playing the character, particularly because he is so outrageous. Despite this, however, Frank still has his moments of innocent humanity. It would seem that the only thing stopping Macy’s prediction could be the behind-the-scenes negotiations between the actors and Showtime.

Before it was officially announced, the season 8 renewal was unsure because of star Emmy Rossum. She demanded equal pay with Macy, and a standoff with the network and studio ensued during contract negotiations. However, the issue has since been settled and Rossum has gone on the record to say that she is “happy to continue” working with her Showtime family. The complete details of the contract have not been disclosed.

Rossum plays the role of Fiona, who is the eldest daughter of Frank. The series also stars Ethan Cutkosky, Jeremy Allen White, Steve Howey, Emma Kenney, Shanola Hampton, Isidora Goresher and Cameron Monaghan. The show is based off an original British series, which was created by Paul Abbott, whose resume includes “Touching Evil,” “Clocking Off” and “State Of Play.”

The release date of “Shameless” season 8 has not yet been officially announced, but it was confirmed previously that shooting would begin within the first half of 2017. Fans of the show can stream the previous episodes exclusively on Showtime.
