Actress Kim Cattrall portrayed the role of Samantha Jones in the show "Sex in the City" in which she conveyed different elements of ageing. One of the elements that she conveyed was that on menopause and a few years later, Kim is experiencing the phenomenon.

Kim spoke to Julie Banderas from Fox Health about embracing menopause and teaming up with Pfizer to encourage women during this phase. She is proof of the fact that things get better with age.

She said that she felt very fortunate to be involved with the show as she had the platform to talk about things that are happening to her -- one of it being menopause. For the true portrayal of her role as Samantha, she spoke to a doctor as to what exactly happens during a hot flash and this has helped her even when she has reached that phase in her life.

She remembered getting ready for a date and feeling a burning sensation and saw her face turning red. She had thought at that time that it was her first flash. She said that when she had her first flash, it was nothing like what she conveyed menopause as during her role as Samantha. She added that it was earth-shaking and that it felt like she was placed in boiling water.

In the United States, on a daily basis, 6,000 women reach menopause. Eighty percent of women experience hot flashes as well, and some of them may have bone loss, leading to osteoporosis.

She has been encouraging women to embrace menopause in their own style through the website, TuneInToMenopause.com. The Web site enables the people to take a quiz about their approach to menopause, in addition to providing information about changes that they might experience. Pfizer will donate $1 for every quiz that was completed to a non-profit organisation that empowers women to work called Dress for Success.

Her advice to women reaching menopause was to remember that they are not alone. She also asked the women to consult a physician for effective management of their symptoms of menopause. She explained that in addition to taking care of their children, husbands and jobs, women should also give importance to their health during the age of menopause.
