The late Tejano singer Selena’s widower Chris Perez joined the vigil in San Antonio, Texas to pay tribute to the “Dreaming Of You” hit maker on her 20th death anniversary. About 300 people gathered at the vigil in Northwest San Antonio to mark the 20th anniversary of Selena's death.

Towards the end of the vigil attended by about 300 people, Perez delivered a speech, in which he said he normally secludes himself to mourn Selena’s death, but this year, he was inspired to join his late wife’s fans. He said, “Let's lift up Selena's legacy and inspire generations to come.”

On March 31, 1995, Selena was shot by her fan club president Yolanda Saldivar outside a motel in Corpus Christi, Texas. Convicted in the Grammy winner’s death, Saldivat is currently serving a life sentence and was never mentioned at the vigil in San Antonio.

Aside from being recognized as the best-selling Latin artist of the 1990's, Selena was also dubbed as the Mexican equivalent of Madonna in terms of fashion. Her posthumous album “Dreaming Of You” was the first album by a Latin artist to rank number on the Billboard 200 chart.

In 1997, the film “Selena” featured her true story starring Jennifer Lopez. The music video of Selena’s “Dreaming Of You” was published on YouTube on Feb. 25 and has since been viewed more than 6 million times. Watch it here:
