After Justin Bieber shared photos of him with rumoured girlfriend Sofia Richie, he had some choice words for his fans that were less than accommodating of the budding relationship. Meanwhile, ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez put things into perspective for him.

Over the weekend, the 22-year-old singer posted a series of black-and-white photos of him with Richie. The 17-year-old daughter of legendary musician Lionel Richie and Bieber were sitting in the back of a car, seemingly just playing around and making faces. Unfortunately, Bieber’s fans did not take to the posts well.

“She should stop trying so hard to be like @selenagomez,” one wrote.

“Girl ugly a------,” wrote another.

Naturally, Bieber did not take to these comments well. “I'm gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don't stop the hate this is getting out of hand,” he captioned the last post in the series. “If you guys are really fans you wouldn't be so mean to people that I like.”

There were fans that agreed with his sentiments, yet there were those that were completely offended by them. His “true fans” praised him for his transparency, and how well he supported Richie. Meanwhile, other individuals said that Bieber had no right to “treat [them] like absolute trash,” especially since they “supported him through absolutely everything.”

Gomez got into the mix as well, almost as if she was offended for his fans. The comment left by the 24-year-old singer was captured by The Shade Room. “If you can’t handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol,” she wrote. “It should be special between you two only. Don’t be mad at your fans. They love you.”

And as noted by Us Magazine, Bieber wrote back to Gomez and threw some shade of his own, “It's funny to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way,” he claimed. A few minutes later, he added to his initial statement, "I'm not one for anyone receiving hate. Hope u all can be kind to my friends and each other,” he wrote. “And yes I love my beliebers."
