Singer-Actress Selena Gomez has been cast in “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising,” the sequel to comedy film “Neighbors” that released in 2014.

The news about Gomez’s casting came to light when the photos from the film’s set, featuring her, surfaced on social media, Entertainment Weekly reported. The details about her role have not been revealed.

It was earlier reported that Dave Franco, Seth Rogen, Zac Efron and Rose Byrne are returning to reprise their “Neighbors” roles. Chloe Moretz has also been roped in to star in the sequel, which is likely to revolve around a sorority.

The original film followed a couple, parents to a newborn baby, who battle their next door neighbours, a group of fraternity brothers. The Hollywood Reporter reported that the film earned more than $269 million worldwide.

The director of the original film, Nicholas Stoller, will be helming the sequel as well. Evan Goldberg, Jay Cohen, Brendan O’Brien and Rogen have written the script.

Also Rogen and Goldberg are co-producing “Neighbors-Sorority Rising” with James Weaver through their Point Grey Pictures and Good Universe, THR reported. Nathan Kahane and Joseph Drake of Good Universe will serve as the film’s executive producers along with Cohen and O’Brien.

Gomez, 23, made her movie debut in 2001, with “Barney & Friends,” and two years later, she starred in “Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over.” Since then, she has been part of several movies. The singer has said that acting is her first love.

“Initially I wanted to quit music, but that probably isn't ever going to happen. I think I need to do more acting. I'm not super-confident in it, but acting is my first love,” Gomez was quoted as saying by Mirror in December 2013.

Gomez will be next seen in “Hotel Transylvania 2,” which is releasing on Sept. 25. She is reprising her role as Mavis in this computer animated fantasy-comedy film.

“Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” opens May 20, 2016.
