When SeaWorld made a request to build new tanks for their orcas, the California Coastal Commission granted them the request. They were allowed to develop and spread out as well as build two more tanks but there was a rather major condition.

SeaWorld will no longer be permitted to breed the existing eleven orca killer whales. The decision was great news for animal right activists but it was a ‘disappointment’ for the SeaWorld management. In their statement, the SeaWorld San Diego Park President John Reilly made a statement tantamount to saying that the ruling was actually a form of cruelty to the captive orcas. “Breeding is a natural, fundamental and important part of an animal’s life and depriving a social animal of the right to reproduce is inhumane,” he was quote saying.
