The Episode 3 of "American Horror Story-Freak Show" is the first part of the two-part Halloween episode of this year. It is titled Edward Mordrake, Pt 1. Wes Bentley is playing Edward Mordrake. Ryan Murphy, co-creator of the show, describes this character as an "amazing myth."

Mordrake is likely to arrive with revenge in his mind and is someone from Ethel's past. TV Line had called the character a "tormentor." Speaking about the character and the episode, Murphy said to Entertainment Weekly (EW), "... it's exploring the story of the Victorian era madman who reportedly was born with another face on the back of his head that would whisper and force the good part of him to do horrible, evil things."

Meanwhile, this episode 3 will also introduce Emma Roberts as Maggie and Denis O' Hare as Stanley. Both are con-artists. Murphy has said that Stanley has a 13-inch penis. As previously reported, Maggie is the fortune-teller with the crystal ball. She and the lobster boy Jimmy are going to have a romantic relationship. According to the synopsis of episode 3, "Jimmy is smitten by a woman claiming to be a fortune-teller." Stanley is the collector of freaks.

In the last episode, "Massacres and Matinees," strongman Dell and his three breasted wife, Desiree, join Elsa's freak show. Dell is the ex-husband of Ethel and is Jimmy's father. Jimmy does not know about that. He and Dell have their little battles in the episode. Dell attacks Jimmy and beats him to pulp. Later, Jimmy tries to frame Dell for the murder of the police detective. But, Dell figures out his plan and he takes the evidence (the cop's badge) from his trailer and puts it in Meep's. Meep is arrested and latter is killed by the inmates. In episode 3, the freaks will be burying Meep and Jimmy is likely to plan something to fix Dell.

The preview of episode 3 indicates that Dandy will become Twisty's apprentice. He is seen wearing the clown's costume and is scaring the two captives [the girl and the boy abducted by Twisty in the premiere episode]. Also, the episode will reveal what Bette did with the knife that Elsa gave her, after whispering in her ear that Dot is evil. In the preview clip, the conjoined twins seem to be undergoing a surgery.

According to the synopsis of the episode, "Edward Mordrake," Pt 1, "The Freaks refuse to perform on Halloween due to an old carny superstition. Jimmy is smitten by a woman claiming to be a fortune-steller. Ethel receives life-changing news."

James Wong has written the episode and Michael Uppendahl has directed it.
