Hollywood’s power couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, opened up about the actress’ health issues and how their bond remains unshaken in times of hardship.

In a rare joint interview on Today, Pitt, 51, and Jolie, 40, discussed with Tom Brokaw their new film together and their first year of marriage. The couple also explained that “support” has helped them survive every stage of their lives.

Jolie had her ovaries removed earlier this year after it was detected that she had high risk for ovarian cancer. The surgery followed the actress’ double mastectomy in 2013 for prevention of breast cancer.

Talking about her decisions, the actress pointed out that Pitt loves her beyond her body. The Oscar award-winning actress said she never felt less of a woman because of her husband’s unconditional love and support.

“I think that for as much as he speaks about my strength, he made it very, very clear to me that what he loved and what was a woman to him was somebody who was smart and capable and cared about her family… that it's not about your physical body,” she said.

Jolie said that through her experience, she learned that it is important for couples “to face these issues together.”

Meanwhile, Pitt revealed that he was away when he found out about Jolie’s condition and he said he felt “horrible” for not being there with her. The actor said Jolie made a “mature” decision for the sake of their family and he supported her for that.

“There was no vanity to my wife's approach… There was a strength in that. It was just another one of those things in life that makes you tighter, and she was doing it for the kids, and she was doing it for her family so we could be together and that trumps anything and everything," he explained.

Just this month, the actor posed for a black and white cover of V magazine, where he shared his on-screen and off-screen experiences with Jolie and their six children. The couple tied the knot in August 2014 after 10 years of being in love with each other.

Jolie and Pitt will be seen on-screen in their upcoming film “By the Sea.” They star as two individuals dealing with a troubled marriage. The film was directed, written and produced by Jolie. This is the second time that the couple will star in a film together since 2005. Their first movie together was “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”

“By the Sea” is set to premiere on Nov. 13 in the U.S. and Nov. 26 in Australia.
