Fans were treated with clues by the much-awaited British drama series “Sherlock” when it released its latest preview for its upcoming fourth series at the San Diego Comic Con on Sunday night.

“Something’s coming. Maybe it’s Moriarty, maybe it’s not. But something’s coming.” The trailer teases an intense and more action-filled fourth season for the award-winning drama series. Stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Amanda Abbington were joined by co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gattis and producer Sue Vertue at the panel's table to discuss the upcoming season.

Unsurprisingly, Benedict, Abbington and Gatis all acknowledged that this season would be the darkest thing the writers have ever written for the show, and that’s a given especially with the appearance of the presumed-dead villain Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott) and his eerie “Miss me?” message.

Although Sherlock Holmes managed to figure out that Moriarty was dead in the 2016 Christmas special, “The Abominable Bride,” it doesn’t mean that the threats and troubles are far from over.

As if the sudden appearance of Moriarty wasn’t enough, Toby Jones will be part of the fourth series as one of Arthur Conan Doyle’s villains. Holmes and Watson are definitely going to have the hardest time of their lives with not one but two villains against them.

With so much to expect and presume for Season 4, moderator Chris Hardwick asked the panel to provide three key words about the upcoming season. Instead of key words, Gatis and Moffat chose to provide three valuable names: Thatcher, Smith and Sherrinford.

Book readers of the Sherlock series would know that “Sherrinford” plays a crucial role with Sherlock, but that technically doesn’t give anything away for the series.

One thing is noted, however, that it’s not a game anymore, and everything they know will be tested.

For now, fans can only assume and theorise what could possible happen until “Sherlock” season 4 begins broadcasting in 2017.
