Quarterback Philip Rivers has agreed to a contract extension with the San Diego Chargers, the team announced on Saturday. Earlier in the offseason, Rivers initially stated that he was willing to let his contract expire in the 2015 season before entering any negotiations but he agreed to a four-year deal worth $84 million and $65M guaranteed, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.

The team confirmed the Rivers' contract extension on Twitter:

Rivers’ guaranteed money is more than that of QB Russell Westbrook, who signed his contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks last July. The 33-year-old Rivers, who signed a six-year $93M deal with the Chargers in 2009, is a five-time NFL Pro Bowler making the elite squad in 2006, 2009 to 2011 and 2013.

Rivers, who has started 144 straight games for the Chargers since becoming a starter in 2006, has helped San Diego to five postseason appearances in the last 11 years. However, the Chargers have yet to win a Super Bowl with Rivers under center but made the AFC Championship Game in 2007. The contract extension comes as the Chargers situation in San Diego is in limbo with multiple talks that a franchise move to Los Angeles is inevitable after the 2015 season.

In the 2014 regular season, Rivers had 4,286 passing yards on 379 of 570 completions (66.5% completion percentage) with 31 touchdowns and 18 touchdowns and four fumbles.
