Samsung has announced a new computer monitor, the SE370 with integrated mobile wireless charging. The monitor is compatible with all mobile devices using the Qi wireless charging standard. The 23.6-inch and 27-inch SE370 monitors have a circular charging station with a Qi wireless charger at the base that allows compatible smartphones such Samsung’s own Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge as to be charged.

According to PC Mag, Qi is an inductive power standard set by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) since 2010. Qi is a low-power method of getting power and letting supported devices trickle-charge as long as they are in the vicinity of 5mm. WPC is working on increasing the distance to 45mm. Qi wireless charging standard is supported by makers such as Samsung, Sony, LG, HTC and Huawei. Users have to just place their mobile device on the stand’s charging station to give it the necessary sap. An LED lights up when it is in use,

In a statement, Seok-gi Kim, Samsung’s senior vice president for Visual Display Business said, “Technology should support, not interfere with, active lifestyles,” reports CNET. Kim further added that, “Through the integration of wireless mobile charging technology, our innovative SE370 monitor dramatically improves efficiency, convenience and connectivity at home and at work.” Samsung confirmed that the monitor has a flicker-free feature that protects our eyes from the flickering that happens with standard monitors.

As reported by PC World, the monitor has a 1920 x 1080 resolution. It also supports AMD's efficient game-smoothing FreeSync technology with richer black hues when it is in game mode. The game mode alters contrast for better visibility and enhances colors to rectify unclear images. The Samsung the SE370 is also compatible with Mac OS X and Windows 10. It also has an eye-saver mode that reduces blue light which results in sleeping problems. The monitors also sport Samsung’s PLS panel technology which provides wider angle of viewing as close as IPS screens with higher brightness and cheaper power costs, reports Gizmag. Samsung is yet to reveal the price of the new monitor.

“Qi Hotspots” are coming up in major airports like John F. Kennedy and Los Angeles World Airports, which has added many public Qi chargers. This year, IKEA started selling furniture with Qi charging inductive pads built into the surface of the tables.
