Samsung is expected to release several smartphones that will be powered by Tizen this year and reports now confirm that the Samsung Z3 will be next in line, skipping the name Z2.

Tizen is Samsung’s own operating system; like the iOS of Apple. Samsung reportedly looks to loosen its reliance on Google’s Android OS. The first smartphone to run on Tizen was Samsung Z1, after that, Samsung’s OS ran on a couple of its smartwatches.

The Tizen-powered Z1 was not a game changing device for Samsung, but it did do well in the markets it reached. Samsung is now looking to use Z1’s success with other Tizen powered smartphones, with the first one reportedly being the Samsung Z3 which is set to release within the year. Previous rumors already claimed that the Samsung Z3 will be the next Tizen smartphone from Samsung, but a new report from SamMobile now adds more details on the matter.

SamMobile claims to have received confirmation from sources that Samsung's next Tizen handset will indeed be the Z3. The device carries model number SM-Z300H_SWA_DD. The company skipped Z2 and went straight to Z3 for reasons unknown.

The device’s specs are currently veiled, but the Z3 is expected to launch at a low cost, which also means the device could get mid-range specs at best.

The Samsung Z1 came with average specs on board. It featured a dual-core Spreadtrum processor, with only 512 MB of RAM and a 3.2 megapixel main camera. However, the Tizen OS gave the device a speedy performance compared to other Samsung phones in the same category that run on Google’s Android.

The next Tizen phone is rumored to sport an upgraded Tizen 3.0, which has some new features and also claims that the next Tizen phone may be unveiled at Samsung’s conference in India.
