Samsung launched two variants of Galaxy Tab S tablet in June. The new Galaxy Tab S tablets feature 8.4 inches and 10.5 inches display. Both the variants pack killer features and impressive hardware/software specifications that can give all other high-end tablets a run for their money. Readers who are interested in the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Tab S (8.4-inches) or the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro (8.4-Inches) should check out the specifications, features and price comparison.

Display, Exterior and Size

Both the phones feature the same 8.4 inches display, packed with 2,560 x 1,600 pixels screen resolution and 359 ppi pixel density. The difference comes in the form of the display technology used. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro uses Super clear LCD, while the Samsung Galaxy Tab S uses Super AMOLED display. With impressive resolution and pixel strengths, both the tablets present sharper and vivid images and videos. Nevertheless, the Tab S stands-out because of the killer display technology.

With Galaxy Tab S, Samsung has brought the Super AMOLED display technology to tablets. The WQXGA (2,560 x 1,600) Super AMOLED display has the capability to present more than 90% of Adobe RGB colour coverage. The contrast ratio of Galaxy Tab S stands at a striking 100,000:1 ratio. Therefore, the viewing experience is remarkable in the latest Galaxy Tab S series of tablets.

The exterior of the Galaxy Tab S is similar to the flagship Galaxy S5 smartphone with a perforated textured rear. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro, on the other hand, sports a faux-leather back, fake stitching, and silver spine similar to other previously released Samsung tablets. However, the textured back is quite comfortable on the hands, notes CNet.

The Galaxy Tab S comes with a thickness and weight of 0.26 inches and 294 g respectively. Whereas the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro is 0.28 inches thick and weighs 335 g. Hence the Galaxy Tab S is much thinner and lighter than the Galaxy Tab Pro.

Hardware, Software and Memory

The non-LTE version of Samsung Galaxy Tab S is powered by a superior octa-core (Exynos 5) processor clocked at (1.9 GHz quad-core and 1.3 GHz quad-core). In addition, the LTE version of Galaxy Tab S is powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 800) processor clocked at 2.3 GHz. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro, on the other hand, is powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 800) processor clocked at 2.3 GHz same as the LTE version of Galaxy Tab S.

However, the latest Galaxy Tab S comes with 3 GB of RAM, whereas the Galaxy Tab Pro houses only 2 GB of RAM. Furthermore, both the devices run on Android v4.4 KitKat OS with Samsung's UI on top of it.

Both the tablets come with 16 GB and 32 GB of internal storage. In addition, the Galaxy Tab S supports microSD card for expansion up to 128 GB, while the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro supports expansion up to 64 GB.

Camera and Battery

Both the phones house the same 8 MP rear-facing camera with LED flash. While the Galaxy Tab Pro features a 2 MP front-facing camera, the Galaxy Tab S comes with a 2.1 MP front-facing shooter.

The Galaxy Tab S houses a non-removable Li-Ion 4900 mAh battery unit with Ultra Power Saving mode. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro, meanwhile, comes with a non-removable Li-Ion 4800 mAh battery unit.

Misc

1. Both the tablets come in LTE and non-LTE (or Wi-Fi only) variants.

2. Also, the latest Galaxy Tab S houses fingerprint scanner, while the Galaxy Tab Pro doesn't.

3. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro comes in white and black shades, whereas the Samsung Galaxy Tab S comes in titanium bronze and dazzling white shades.

Price

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro (8.4) 16 GB with 4G LTE is priced at AU$459.95, while the latest Samsung Galaxy Tab S (8.4) 16 GB with 4G LTE can be purchased at AU$629.95 in Australia.
