Samsung has confirmed the Galaxy S7 launch date on Feb. 21 at an Unpacked event in Barcelona. Customers can sign up on the company website and pre-order Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge between Feb. 21 and March 10 to get a free Samsung Gear VR headset.

Here are nine of the highly expected Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge specs and features:

Introduce pressure sensitive display

Samsung Galaxy S7 series will tout a pressure-sensitive display technology similar to that of Apple’s 3D Force Touch in iPhone 6s lineup, according to unconfirmed reports. The Korean tech company seems to have collaborated with Synaptics, a developer of human interface solutions based on biometric technologies, as reported by SamMobile.

Bring back expandable memory

One of the most remarkable upgrades that the Galaxy S7 will bring in is that both the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will feature microSD card slots for memory expansion up to 200 GB. Last year, Samsung had dropped this feature for the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and Galaxy Note 5.

Feature water resistance

The teaser video (see below) posted on Samsung Mobile's official Twitter account indicates that the phone will be water resistant.

Bigger battery than its predecessor

Both the variants of the Samsung Galaxy S7 are likely to get a battery upgrade from its predecessors. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will reportedly feature 3,000 mAh and 3,600 mAh batteries, respectively.

Last week, an FCC filing confirmed that the Galaxy S7 Edge will house a huge 3,600 mAh battery, which is considerably bigger than its rival Huawei Nexus 6P that hosts a 3,450mAh battery cell, as reported by 9to5Google.

Two different processors for different markets

According to unofficial reports, the Galaxy S7 will be released in two different processors for different markets. The one powered by Samsung’s own home grown Exynos 8890 chipset will be released for the international markets. On the other hand, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC will power the variant to be launched the US and Chinese market.

To overcome the overheating issues of the Snapdragon 820 processor, Samsung will allegedly include an innovative cooling technology and include small-pipes filled with liquid coolant placed around heated chipsets.

Own version of Live Photos

Alongside touch-sensitive display technology, Samsung will imitate another prominent iPhone feature, the Live Photos. According to Android Geeks, the Korean tech giant will launch its own version of Live Photos dubbed as Vivid Photo with the Galaxy S7.

High speed charging port

The company may also incorporate a high-speed charging and connection port to its new range of flagship devices. The Type-C USB charging will allow the device to get fully charged in just 30 minutes.

‘Always On’ mode

An application filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to trademark the term ‘Always On Display,’ indicates that Samsung might incorporate the features into its upcoming flagship smartphones, as reported by SamMobile.
