Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S7 smartphone in early 2016 with a mysterious Duo Pixel technology that could be a new type of camera autofocusing system. Or something else altogether.

Despite this welcome report, there's little information on how the Duo Pixel camera technology will work. Duo Pixel may either refer to a dual-lens setup or a new pixel setup within the camera. Another possibility is the new camera technology could be a new type of focusing system that does away with existing face-detection autofocus.

Samsung’s Duo Pixel sensor might be similar Canon’s Dual Pixel sensor, according to BGR India. Canon replaced its Dual Pixel Sensor with the single photodiode, which helps the technology use the two of them for each pixel area. This feature is good for focusing more rapidly when recording videos.

Another report says the new Samsung sensor may even have the Smart WDR mode to enhance the dynamic range.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 might come in three different variants: the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S7 Plus. Reports also suggest the Galaxy S7 will sport a 6-inch display along with 3D Touch display, similar to that of the Apple iPhone 6s. The Galaxy S7’s CPU might also have a liquid cooling system to prevent it from overheating.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is expected to be launched either at CES 2016 in January or MWC 2016 in February.
