Samsung Galaxy S6, with a killer combination of metal and glass design, has just become official at the MWC 2015 event. Meanwhile, the monstrous Motorola Nexus 6 was released in November 2014. In addition to the killer design change, the latest Galaxy S6 also comes with cutting-edge specifications to complement the flagship device. Readers who are interested in purchasing the Samsung Galaxy S6 or the Nexus 6 should check out this comparison of features, specifications and prices.

Galaxy S6 vs. Nexus 6: Display, Design And Size

The Samsung Galaxy S6 features a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display bundled with a Quad HD 1,440 x 2,560 pixel resolution, which trickles down to a pixel density of 577 ppi. The Motorola Nexus 6, on the other hand, sports a humongous 5.96-inch AMOLED display, but the screen resolution is same as the Samsung flagship. This translates to a pixel density of a relatively inferior 493 ppi.

When it comes to design, the Galaxy S6 apparently flaunts a bold new design unlike any other Galaxy S series of devices. The South Korean conglomerate has been mercilessly criticised for the plastic-looking Galaxy S line-up of handsets. Having taken the feedback and criticism seriously, Samsung has made sure the S6 does not utilise the ubiquitous plastic design. Also, the leather rear shell has been booted out and alternatively, glass material has reportedly been used. Furthermore, the sides of the handset reportedly come enwrapped in metal, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phablet. Overall, the S6 looks brilliant and it is apparently more durable, writes Tech2.

Meanwhile, the bigger Nexus 6 is, in many ways, identical to the Moto X 2014. Aside from featuring the same plastic exterior, there is reportedly a metal frame encircling the corners of the phone, guaranteeing the premium look to the device. In addition, there are apparently two front-facing speakers to amplify the housed sound system of the smartphone, says Phone Arena.

Speaking of size, the thickness and weight of the Motorola handset are 0.40 inch and 184 g, respectively, while the Samsung Galaxy S6 handset is 0.27-inch thick and weighs 138 g. Therefore, it is very evident the flagship Galaxy S6 is extremely thin and light when compared to the Goliath-like Nexus 6.

Galaxy S6 vs. Nexus 6: Hardware, Software And Memory

The Nexus 6 is powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 805) processor, whereas the Galaxy S6 comes powered by a superior octa-core (Samsung Exynos 7420) processor. The Samsung device trumps the Nexus handset fair and square in the processor department. To be specific, the Nexus 6 has scored 1,062 points in Geekbench benchmark testing, while the Galaxy S6 amasses a killer 1,475 score, notes Phone Arena. Despite the difference, both devices are backed by the same 3 GB of RAM configuration.

Moving on to the software side, the Galaxy S6 runs on the latest Android v5.0.2 Lollipop OS with TouchWiz UI, while the Nexus 6 runs on Android v5.0 Lollipop OS. The standout point about Motorola devices is they provide stock Android experience. Also, the Android v5.0 Lollipop OS reportedly follows minimalistic design philosophy and provides impressive user experience, notes Phone Arena.

Furthermore, both smartphones offer 32 and 64 GB of inbuilt storage options. In addition, the Galaxy S6 also has a monstrous 128 GB storage option. In any case, both devices do not support expandable storage. But then, the increased internal storage limit compensates the deficit.

Galaxy S6 vs. Nexus 6: Camera And Battery

While the Galaxy S6 features a solid 16-MP primary camera with LED flash, the Nexus 6 houses a 13-MP primary camera with dual-LED flash, HDR, optical image stabilisation and 4K video capturing support. Meanwhile, the Samsung device reportedly comes with a slightly wider F1.9 aperture with auto-focus capabilities and HDR. Additionally, while the Nexus device comes with a 2-MP secondary shooter, the Galaxy handset comes with a gracious 5-MP snapper with HDR support at the front as well. When it comes to battery configuration, the Nexus 6 trumps the Galaxy S6 with its killer battery capacity. The Galaxy S6 comes equipped with a non-removable Li-Ion 2,550 mAh unit, whereas the Nexus 6 features a killer non-removable Li-Po 3,220 mAh unit.

Galaxy S6 vs. Nexus 6: Additional Features

1. Both smartphones support wireless charging feature. Also, in addition to the standard connectivity options, both flagship devices support 4G LTE and NFC. Nonetheless, the Galaxy S6 goes one step further and supports Infrared port as well.

2. In theory, the Nexus 6 does not come with water- or dust-proof exterior and therefore, the handset lacks IP 67 certification. To compensate this deficit, the Motorola device features a water-resistive coating. This means, the device can survive accidental water splashes. In any case, leaving the phone underwater for longer period of time will damage the device perennially, writes Phone Arena. On the other hand, the Galaxy S6 does not come with water- or dust-resistive exterior.

3. Moreover, the Samsung device features a fingerprint scanner, whereas the Motorola handset doesn't. In addition, the Galaxy S6 supports the new payment system called Samsung Pay, a replica of the Apple Pay.

Galaxy S6 vs. Nexus 6: Price And Release Date

Speaking of the Samsung Galaxy S6 price, Sam Mobile says the 32-GB variant of the handset will reportedly set the buyers back by 699 euro (i.e. roughly $780), while the 64-GB model will be priced at 799 euro and the 128 GB version will cost 899 euro. Notably, the Galaxy S6 price pertaining to the U.S. has not been revealed thus far. And the Galaxy S6 release date is reportedly set for April 10. On the other hand, the Nexus 6 will set the buyers back by $682.99.
