The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Google’s Nexus 6P made by Huawei are two of the most desirable devices of 2015. Both the premium handsets are flagships in their own rights and are packed with top-notch powerful specs. Let us see who wins this battle of phablets.

Display and Design

Both the beasts sport an aluminium and premium glass build with similar screen sizes. Both phablets have a 5.7-inch screen with more or less similar dimensions. Both the smartphones features AMOLED displays with QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (518 ppi).

However, the Huawei Nexus 6P is a slightly bigger phone and the Edge Plus is slimmer and lighter than the former. The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus has a brighter display with rich colours as compared to the Nexus 6P.

The marked difference remains that the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus touts a curved display whereas Nexus 6P has a flat screen. Again, both the devices house a fingerprint scanner; but for the Nexus 6P the sensor is on the back and for the Edge Plus it is integrated into the physical home button.

The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is available in four colour variants including Black, White, Gold and Silver. On the other hand, the Huawei Nexus 6P is shipped in three colours namely Aluminium, Graphite and Frost.

Performance

Samsung’s high-end device is powered by its own homegrown Exynos 7420 processor whereas Google opted for Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor for its Nexus device. Both handsets have 64-bit octa-core processors which use four cores of A53 and four cores of A57 to run the device.

The S6 Edge Plus has an edge over the Nexus 6P as it offers 4 GB of RAM as compared to 3 GB for the latter. None of the devices have microSD card slots. The S6 Edge Plus comes in 32 GB and 64 GB storage options. On the other hand, the Nexus 6P comes in more storage capacities of 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB, reports PC Advisor.

Software

In the software department Google wins the battle with Nexus 6P which was launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. On the contrary, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus runs on Samsung’s TouchWiz software layered on top of Android Lollipop.

According to an earlier report in Android Pit, with 4 GB RAM, S6 Edge Plus is one of the fastest Android phones in the market. The smartphone will be one of the devices to get Marshmallow in Q1.

Camera

The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus has a 16-megapixel main camera unit with slightly wider aperture of f/1.9 along with a 5-megapixel front snapper. According to Android Pit review, S6 Edge Plus has an excellent camera unit aided with superior low-light capabilities, magnificent colour reproduction and optical image stabilisation.

In terms of camera capabilities, Huawei’s device lags behind. The Nexus 6P sports a 12MP front-facing camera with laser auto-focus coupled with an 8MP front shooter for selfies. However, the front-camera of 6P is better than that of S6 Edge Plus.

Battery

The Nexus 6P houses a giant 3,450 mAh battery to juice up the device. There is a 3,000 mAh battery to keep the lights on for the S6 Edge Plus. Both the devices are supported by in-built quick charging capabilities. However, the S6 Edge Plus also supports wireless charging. But Google has adopted the new USB Type-C port. The reversible port helps in faster charging.

Price

The 32 GB version of Google Nexus 6P costs US$499 (AU$710) whereas the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus (32 GB) is priced at US$649 (AU$923). It is close competition between the two giants, but Samsung’s curved screen device wins the battle with its exceptional performance, fabulous camera module and brilliant display.
