Students Walk Out Of Samsung Electronics' Headquarters In Seoul
Students walk out of Samsung Electronics' headquarters in Seoul July 7, 2014. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd on Tuesday said operating profit likely fell 24.5 percent in April-June, its lowest in two years due to slowing growth in the company's cash cow smartphone business and the strength of the South Korean won. According to recent reports, Samsung is working on a brand new project named Project Zero. Apparently, this project will design the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 flagship smartphone from scratch. Topping the existing report is a new one, which states that a "curved version" of the S6 will be released along the lines of the limited-edition Galaxy Note Edge. This curved handset is code named as Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.

The difference between the Galaxy Note Edge and the Galaxy S6 Edge is that the S6 Edge will be curved on both the sides, instead of just the right side as seen in the Note Edge. Furthermore, Sam Mobile has also confirmed the existence of the Galaxy S6 and the curved sibling Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Therefore, if the reports are true, come 2015, Samsung fans can expect a flat Galaxy S6 and a curved Galaxy S6 Edge. Nonetheless, the curved version will likely be released only in selected regions across the globe, similar to the Galaxy Note Edge, according to Phone Arena.

As far as the key rumoured specifications go, the Samsung Galaxy S6 features include a Quad HD resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels and expected to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC or Samsung's Exynos 7420 processor. Speaking of the camera configuration, the handset will reportedly house either a 16 MP or 20 MP rear-facing camera unit, in addition to a good 5 MP front-facing snapper for selfies. If the reports are true, the smartphone will flaunt the much-loved metallic look. Even if the whole handset is not made of metal, at least metallic material will be mixed with the plastic ones as seen in many Samsung devices, says the same site.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that Samsung's net profit for Q3 of 2014 dropped steeply by nearly 50 percent, when compared to the same time period in 2013. Samsung acknowledged that the decline in revenue is due to the heightened competition and decreased prices specific to its older devices, says ZDNet. Hence, it is only obvious that the South Korean conglomerate leaves no stone unturned to become profitable once again with a redesigned flagship device, targeting 2015.

Notably, the expected Samsung Galaxy S6 release date is pegged for the first quarter of 2015. What do you think of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge? Should Samsung opt for 2 sides of curved display? Will it be of any use or is it just a marketing gimmick? Feel free to leave a comment.
