Samsung fans might be wondering as to why Samsung had to release a mini version of Samsung Galaxy S5, the S5 Mini. Is there a big difference or is it merely about the size and mobility. Let us find out by discussing some of the features of Samsung Galaxy S5 vs S5Mini.

Design, Built and Screen

Looking at the design, users will surely conclude that S5 Mini is just a mini version of Galaxy S5. In its simplest sense, that is true. In fact, Galaxy S5 mini is 8% shorter and 10% narrower than the Galaxy S5, but 15% thicker. The smaller handset weighs 120g while the larger is 145g. Both of them are made from plastic materials. The screen of mini is reduced by 28% - Galaxy S5 has 5.1 inches screen compared to 4.5 inches of the Galaxy S5 mini. If you were hoping to have a dust and waterproof phone then you will not be disappointed as TrustedReviews reported that S5 Mini maintains the IP67 certification.

Processor, Memory and Storage

GizMag also conducted a review about these two smartphones. The site saw a big difference between two handsets when it comes to the processor. The Samsung Galaxy S5 is powered by the fastest processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 while the small version carries a less powerful chip of Snapdragon 400. The Galaxy S5 mini features 1.5 of RAM, down from 2GB RAM available in Galaxy S5. Also, there is only 16GB storage for the Galaxy S5 mini while Galaxy S5 comes in 16 or 32GB built in storage. But as Samsung's trademark, both smartphones features MicroSD slots to expand memory settings.

Software and Hardware

Both of these Galaxy phones are powered by Android 4.4 KitKat with TouchWiz UI. They also offer same features such S Health, Ultra power Saving, Kids mode, and Private Mode. GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth that are available in any other smartphones are also available on these handsets. Fingerprint scanner and heart-rate sensor features of Galaxy S5 are also present in its smaller handset version based on PC Advisor review.

Camera and Battery

The Samsung Galaxy S5 has 16MP rear camera compared to the 8MP of Galaxy S5 Mini. However, you will be surprised that the Galaxy S5 mini offers a greater front-facing camera with its 2.1MP versus the 2MP of the larger version, though there is no big difference. The Samsung Galaxy S5 and mini both offer LED flash, HDR and an auto focus features. Expect that the larger smartphone have better quality of battery with 2,800mAh compared to the 2,100mAh of the mini version. But the smaller one can balance things out because of its lower specs.

Some great features of Samsung Galaxy S5 are also found in S5 Mini. So if you're looking for lighter and more compact smartphone then, it would be wise to go for S5 Mini. But if you are after great specs and performance then big brother Samsung Galaxy S5 is still the best.
