On April 11, Samsung Galaxy S5 will land Down Under as confirmed by Samsung Australia in an extravagant event held on Wednesday.

The announcement was made at Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art.

Samsung Galaxy S5 landing in Down Under was scheduled 10 days following HTC One M8's Australian launch.

Galaxy S5 rolls out on all the major telcos - Optus, Virgin Mobile, Vodafone and Telstra - and can be ordered ahead of its launch through the Samsung Experience Stores in George Street, Sydney and the Highpoint Shopping Centre, Melbourne.

Pricing

Telstra will be selling it on its Mobile Accelerate plans with an extra $12 per month for 24 months on the $70. This entitles users for $700 worth of calls and MMS, unlimited text messaging locally and 1.5GB of data, all on a 24-month contract.

Optus will be selling Galaxy S5 on its MyPlan for an extra $26 per month on the $35 MyPlan, which includes 200 minutes of calls and 200MB of data.

For those who will place order from March 27 until April 10, they will be entitled to extra 500MB of data on the $60 MyPlan.

Other MyPlan with unlimited SMS and MMS within Australia:

  • $50 MyPlan: $21 extra for the device over 24 months, including 450 minutes of calls and 500MB of data;
    $60 MyPlan: $16 extra for the device over 24 months, including 600 minutes of calls and 1.5GB* of data;
    $80 MyPlan: $11 extra for the device over 24 months, including 800 minutes of calls and 2GB of data;
    $100 MyPlan: $7 extra for the device over 24 months, including unlimited calls and 3GB of data;

Vodafone is offering the cheapest Galaxy S5 plan at $30 which is already inclusive $200 of calls and texts and 200MB of data.

Virgin Mobile is selling the Galaxy S5 for $13 a month on its $60 per month plan.

In a further announcement, Samsung Australia said that Westpac and Commonwealth Bank customers will be able to access the "Mobile Tap and Pay" feature.

"Mobile Tap and Pay" allows Galaxy S5 users to pay for purchases made using the mobile's NFC chip.

As an added take away, Australians will be the very first people to use the fingerprint scanner to make online purchases from their phones using their PayPal account.
