Samsung Galaxy S4 mini and HTC One mini are in the shopping choices of relatively cheaper Android phone buyers. The smaller S4 is already out, but the One mini has yet to be released. Which of these two smaller versions of flagship smartphones make the better deal for you?

Samsung Galaxy S4 (4G LTE, 16GB) unlocked costs $689.95. The HTC One price tag (4G LTE, unlocked) is marked $699.95 and $859.95 for 32GB and 64GB, respectively. (Note: Prices are in AU$ and estimated based on Australian shops.) In contrast, the Galaxy S4 mini (8GB 4G) will set you back only $579.95. If you're only after good screen display quality, the mini's Super AMOLED 960 x 540 pixels (qHD) on a 4.3-in is already more than just good enough.

The screen display of the regular Galaxy S4 is Super AMOLED 1920 x 1080 pixels on a 5-in screen. For some, using larger phones is better. For others, they'd rather have a smaller screen for their phone, and a separate tablet on the side for better visual satisfaction. If you're not a huge fan of big phone displays, you should go with the S4 mini. If you're also interested in One mini specs, here's a list of 5 shopping considerations when choosing a mini smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini or HTC One Mini: Top 5 Shopping Factors

1. Screen display. Both the S4 mini and One mini come in 4.3-in display. HTC can only (probably) beat Samsung's Super AMOLED in this category if the One mini comes in 720p display.

2. Body design. The One mini is likely to pull in design-conscious buyers with its sleek, metallic unibody design. The S4 mini does not feel like an expensive piece of technology, though how it looks doesn't necessarily affect its performance.

3. CPU. Both minis have dual-core processors. Engadget's sources revealed some benchmark results, and the site's analysts see it could be as fast, if not slightly better than HTC First's CPU. The site also said the mini is not going to be released until autumn in the U.S.

4. Camera. The S4 mini's shooter yields 8MP images. The full-size HTC One's 4 ultrapixel is said to be the equivalent of 8MP. Image results, however, show the HTC One camera is already better in low light conditions. That said, the One mini might have a much weaker shooter, especially in daylight/outdoor scenes.

5. Extra storage. This is where the competition ends for many Android phone and tablet shoppers. One of the worst dealbreakers in the iOS iPhone and iPad devices is the lack of external storage option. The HTC One also lacks this feature. The S4 mini, however, is expandable up to 64GB with a MicroSD card.

If you reckon the One mini makes much more sense according to your phone requirements, wait until later this year to get a new smartphone. If it's the S4 mini, it's available now, so enjoy your new Android.
