Designers have unveiled the essential design factors used on both Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. An official blog from Samsung detailed everything from materials, screen display, S Pen and Montblanc collaboration.

Materials Used: Metal Frame And Software Cover

Samsung acknowledged the desire of many users to use metal framing on Galaxy devices. However, designers did not agree to the idea of using metal "for the sake of using it." Galaxy Note 4 used an overall design concept called Modern Sleek which matches the soft cover factor as well.

- Modern edginess with the use of metal frame with diamond cutting

- Soft cover was used to bring out warm and emotional feeling rather than hard and cold emotional sense from metal

- Leather pattern was one of the finest from Togo

Galaxy Note Edge Screen On The Right Side Instead On The Left Side

Placing of the extra screen on Galaxy Note Edge has been considered and the final location was influenced by usability. The idea is similar on how people flip pages of a book from right to left that made the right side the initial contact point.

Another usability factor was the location of the main screen which should be at the literal place -- "main" display. People in general read from left to right which made the designers choose the right side for the extra screen.

Curving The Right Side On Galaxy Note Edge

It was not easy for the designers to curve out the right side due to several factors which can affect usability and comfort. Three main factors have been considered before the right side went final on the Galaxy Note Edge:

1. The display on the right side must look clear from every angle

2. A right sense of grip is essential

3. Enough point of impact to activate functions when touched by a finger

Interface On The Edge Screen Of Galaxy Note Edge

Revolving UX is the term used on the Edge Screen user interface on Galaxy Note Edge. It was based on how doors revolve when people enters or exits a room. Flipping was the effect to deliver different contents on the Edge Screen.

Galaxy Note UX And The New S Pen

S Pen on the Galaxy Note 4 is different when compared to previous generation of Galaxy Note phablets according to Samsung. It seems like the new S Pen has been redesigned to be more natural rather than a simply accessory to open functions and tasks:

- Calligraphy Pen feature demonstrates the natural feeling to use the S Pen

- Sensitivity has been doubles with the ability to sense tilting

- S Pen can now drag multiple times like a computer mouse

- Grip design factor has been added using a pattern to make it less slippery and increase usability

- Montblanc collaboration is a part to add the heritage of traditional writing instruments on the S Pen
