Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S8 at Mobile World Congress (MWC 2017), which will be held in Barcelona from February 27 to March 2, so it’s only natural for the South Korean tech giant to milk the upcoming smartphone’s predecessors as much as possible, and that’s exactly what the company is doing. Samsung is now offering the Gear Fit 2 fitness wristband for free to Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge buyers in Australia. The offer lasts until March 28.

In order to get the Gear Fit 2, buyers need to purchase a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge handset from any participating retailer physically or online. They can then redeem the Gear Fit 2 fitness tracker by going to the Samsung Australia website. The country’s top telcos – Optus, Telstra and Vodafone – are taking part in this offer via two-year plans.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge retail for $1,149 and $1,249.00 respectively. After completing and submitting the online claim form, those eligible shall receive an email confirming their successful claim within the next four weeks. Actual delivery of the Gear Fit 2 can take one to four days depending on the area.

The Gear Fit 2, which is normally priced at $289, sports a 1.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a 216 x 432 resolution. The fitness gadget equips a dual-core 1 GHz Exynos 3250 processor with 4 GB of internal storage and 512 MB of RAM. It comes with a 200 mAh battery and is IP68 certified, which means it can be submerged underwater for 30 minutes and 1.5 metres deep.

The Samsung Gear Fit 2 is compatible with smartphones that have Android 4.4 and above, although a minimum of 1.5 GB of RAM is required. The wearable, which is powered by Samsung’s Tizen instead of Android Wear, will soon be compatible with Apple devices, as long as they run on iOS 9 at the least.
