The Android 4.4.4 KitKat update from Samsung remains delayed but new details have emerged that the firmware seems on the way starting with the Galaxy S5 LTE-A European model and the Galaxy Mega 2 SM-G750.

Samsung Android 4.4.4 KitKat Details

Older Samsung Galaxy devices are still running Android 4.4.2 KitKat or Android 4.3 Jelly Bean depending on model and territory. But new firmware releases hinted out Android 4.4.4 KitKat update for certain smartphones.

According to SamMobile, Samsung's version of Android 4.4.4 KitKat with TouchWiz UI is coming soon to the Galaxy S5 LTE-A SM-G901 European variant and Galaxy Mega 2 SM-G750. This means that the company has already made firmware build releases of Android 4.4.4 KitKat and simply pushing out the software to the latest devices rather than older ones.

Official Android 4.4.4 KitKat for Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE SM-G901 has started in United Kingdom via network carrier EE with build version G901FXXU1ANH5 while the Android 4.4.4 KitKat for Galaxy Mega 2 SM-G750 was released in Malaysia in July 2014 carrying the build version G750FXXU1ANGD.

Due to the advantage of Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3 being the latest among flagship smartphones, users of Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2 will need to be more patient than ever.

Android 4.4.3 KitKat Details

Android 4.4.3 KitKat version remains available for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition which runs the vanilla Android UI and lacks exclusive apps and services from Samsung. Few months ago, Android 4.4.3 update has been reported to be under testing on both Galaxy S5 Exynos and Snapdragon variants. It is also being tested on Galaxy S4 LTE-A variant.

However, Android 4.4.3 KitKat firmware is flawed on security related to OpenSSL and Heartbleed bug which Google fixed on Android 4.4.4 version. It is unknown if Samsung will jump to Android 4.4.4 or do the similar feat with HTC on implementing latest security fixes from Android 4.4.4 to Android 4.4.3 update.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat Details

As of now, Android 4.4.2 KitKat is the viable firmware update to most Galaxy devices including Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3. Unfortunately, there are some reports that Galaxy S3 models outside the United States are not upgradable yet to Android 4.4.2 firmware such as in the case with Vodafone Spain. Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Galaxy S3 is available for download and install from major network carriers including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless.
