Salim Mehajer could make a 2017 comeback: Former deputy mayor to return to politics soon, says report
Former Auburn deputy mayor, Salim Mehajer, who also holds the impromptu reputation of being “Australia’s Donald Trump,” is looking forward to a make a political comeback in 2017. He says it is what he loves doing the most — adding “helping others.”
"My passion for politics remains ever so strong and hopefully I will be back doing what I love the most, helping others," Mehajer said, talking about his plans for the year ahead.
Mehajer has also been reported as being reluctant to comment whether the Mehajer family had been planning a reality TV show “similar to the Kardashians” as Mehajer himself dubbed earlier, according to The Sunday Morning Herald. "We definitely won't be writing it off from our play cards. It's all a business game,” he said. “The year of 2017 will be a year we anticipate on working together and focusing on what matters to us the most, i.e. one another.”
Salim Mehajer and Politics
Mehajer came in the limelight as already having a “colourful” political resume given his age. Infamous for his suspension from the post of deputy mayor of Auburn Council, the controversial property developer has also been accused of committing voter fraud in 2012. Salim Mehajer, however, denies these charges.
In 2011, Mehajer was reported as missing the deadline set by the Election Funding Authority to declare electoral spending and political donations for his failed bid for the seat of Auburn in the state elections. He won a seven percent first preference vote here, and no action was reportedly taken.
In September, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission renounced Mehajer from managing corporations for three years, citing the drastic step “as a means of protecting others from his incompetence.”
Mehajer’s Marriage
In what can be called a lavish wedding in the truest sense of the term, Mehajer made headlines in 2015 for shutting down a local street in Lidcombe for tying the knot with Aysha Learmonth, as reported by Yahoo News 7. The marriage didn’t last long, however.
In July, Learmonth took out an apprehended violence order (AVO) against him, which has prevented Mehajer from seeing or contacting her. He, further, had to face public fury after “A Current Affair” published videos of him allegedly threatening his now-ex-wife.
