Legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has once again reiterated his belief that current assistant manager Ryan Giggs has the necessary credentials to take up the managerial post currently occupied by Dutchman Louis van Gaal.

The former Wales winger played for United for over two decades before hanging up his boots. He even briefly managed the side as player-manager after David Moyes was sacked towards the end of the 2014 season.

Ferguson dismissed the opinion that it was necessary for Giggs to manage another club before taking up the reins at United, claiming he had the necessary experience, having worked under van Gaal and Moyes and also having been with Ferguson since 1991.

“I think Ryan has all the qualities to be a fantastic manager. I have heard it said that he will have to go to another club first because he doesn’t have enough experience. But he is gaining experience working with Louis van Gaal and he also had experience working with David Moyes and working under me as a player. I don’t think that Ryan needs to go anywhere,” Ferguson told the Mirror.

Louis van Gaal decided to keep the celebrated Red Devils midfielder as assistant manager when he took up the reins and has also indicated that Giggs could well succeed him when his contract with United expires in 2017.

Giggs is the one of the most celebrated players in world football, having won 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies, four F.A Cups and three League Cups in 23 year long career as a player, and is much revered in the United dressing room.

Van Gaal has even claimed he brought teenage striker Anthony Martial not for himself but for Giggs, who could take over from him in 2017.

"I have not bought Martial for me, I have bought him for the next manager of Manchester United. I feel I am introducing the next manager of Manchester United," van Gaal claimed in a press conference held to introduce summer signing Anthony Martial earlier this month.
