Rupert Sanders has finally spoken about his affair with “Twilight” actress Kristen Stewart and called it a “momentary lapse.” The “Snow White & The Huntsman” director had a brief affair with Stewart while they both were working on the sets of the movie he directed. The affair resulted in the divorce of the actor from his wife of many years Liberty Ross, who also played the role of the mother of Stewart in the movie.

Sanders, 46, who is currently promoting his movie “Ghost in the Shell,” told Metro UK that he is just as human as he can be and he accepts his mistakes. But this doesn't stop him from making more mistakes in future. “You never know what’s coming in life,” Sanders told the publication in an interview. “Around every corner there’s something unexpected, and that’s life. You just have to brush yourself off and continue moving forward the best you can. Everyone makes mistakes. I am bound to make more mistakes and I wouldn’t expect my life to be exciting if I didn’t,” he added.

The news of Sanders-Stewart affair leaked in 2012 after a publication revealed the pictures of two getting cosy with each other. At that time Stewart was dating Robert Pattinson, her co-star from “Twilight” movies and both the actors had a huge fan following to such an extent that they were worshiped by their fans as “Robsten.” Following the affair, the lives of all the people-- Ross, Stewart, Sanders and Pattinson took a different path.

Ross filed for divorce from Sanders, who was later not involved in the sequel of “The Snow White & The Huntsman” movie along with Stewart. Stewart meanwhile explored her sexuality and is allegedly linked to many female celebrities including Alicia Cargile and Stella Maxwell and Pattinson found his love with singer FKA twigs.

Sanders meanwhile is unapologetic about his actions in the past and told the publication that his personal life does not determine his work. “If you took people off the table for a momentary lapse there would be no one making art,” Sanders said.

Sanders' movie “Ghost in the Shell” has been declared a “flop” by various media outlets. According to Deadline, the film has only collected $62 million at the worldwide box office and is expected to “lose at least $60 million,” based on the various global box office projections. Meanwhile, an executive from Paramount pictures has blamed the failure of the movie to the white-washing controversy.

The movie is the remake of the classic Japanese anime and was critisised from its initial stages for casting Scarlett Johansson in the lead role of Major Motoko Kusanagi, voiced by Atsuko Tanaka in the original. "We had hopes for better results [in North America]. I think the conversation regarding casting impacted the reviews," Kyle Davies of Paramount Pictures told Newshub.
