Rovio, the Finnish creator of the popular Angry Birds game, is leveling up again with a planned Angry Birds family theme park in Espoo, Finland. A blog in the Wall Street Journal said that Rovio beat Ikea is bidding for the 12.9-acre land expected to house the theme park and new Rovio offices.

A new edifice is certainly needed by the fast-growing app company after its manpower grew to 550 employees from only 200 twelve months ago. The theme park will be a joint venture with a Finnish information services company, Tieto Oyj.

"We're in the process of developing a concept for a family entertainment center that could be replicated around the world. Concept development should be completed this spring," TWSJ quoted Mikko Setala, executive vice president of Rovio for corporate development.

The theme park could be a future threat to Disney amusement parks which has as its main attraction older cartoon characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Pluto.

There is actually an Angry Birds themed park in Hunan, China, and reports said that the operators have secured the permission of Rovio.

Angry Birds will likely appeal to the younger tech-savvy generation who have been enamored by the battle between the winged creatures and the pigs. To help further attract more kids to the future theme park, Rovio is set to release soon an animated cartoon series and just opened over the weekend the first Angry Birds interactive attraction at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

The Angry Birds Space Encounter Exhibit is spread in 4,500 square feet of space. It has with six stations that allow visitors interaction with the characters' space-related activities and games.

Among its features are the creation of customised Angry Birds which could be printed and taken home, Eggsteroid slingshot contest and Cold Cuts Tile Puzzle to find their favourite Angry Birds characters.
