Everything went as expected. Roman Reigns was the last man standing at the 27th annual Royal Rumble held Sunday at the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia to book the heavyweight championship match with Brock “The Beast Incarnate” Lesnar at Wrestlemania 31.

Former face of the franchise Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made a surprise entrance to lend a hand to his cousin Reigns who was being pummelled by The Authority guys Big Show, Kane and Rusev. Johnson aided Reigns to finally topple Kane after delivering his patented people’s elbow to Kane. Then, the cousins teamed up to obliterate Big Show with a Reigns punch which was followed by a thumping rock bottom by The Rock. After the mad sequence, Reigns captured the golden ticket to Wrestlemania by throwing the sneaky Rusev off the top rope. Despite Johnson’s cameo, the fans in attendance could not hide their disgust over the turnout of the events at the Rumble.

Early on, the building got the shock of their lives when fan favourite and potential Rumble contender Daniel Bryan was eliminated unceremoniously like a mid-card entry by Bray Wyatt. The founder of the “Yes! Movement” was the 10th man to enter the ring but was toppled out early with a shove from Wyatt as he was clinging on to the top rope. The turn of events was construed by the fans as the signal that the Rumble was headed to a Reigns victory.

Expectedly, the current face handpicked by Vince McMahon entered to a chorus of boos when his signature theme music was played at no. 19. Not only fans in the stadium showed their disgust over the predictable outcome and the lacklustre pay-per-view event as many took to social media their displeasure over the direction of the WWE. Immediately after the match, “#CancelWWENetwork” became a hot trending topic with many followers of the wrestling outfit expressing their decisiveness to altogether rescind support of the company.

It is unclear if the rise of Reigns is actually mapped out to be an immediate turn to heel given that it was evident that fan reception was not exactly ecstatic over a prince who is destined for the crown. The echoing boos at the Wells Fargo Centre is a loud reverberating cry that the network is crowning Reigns prematurely or it has not wisely selected the man of the masses, Bryan as the more suitable person to challenge Lesnar at Wrestlemania 31.
