“Galak-Z” is coming to mobile devices next year. The title has been a hit on the PlayStation 4 so far, with many critics praising the game’s shooter gameplay which also mixes elements from the Roguelike genre. The game will continue to be developed by 17-Bit, but the mobile version will be published by GungHo Online Entertainment America.

The mobile port of the game will be called “Galak-Z: Mobile Variant” and will feature touchscreen controls and a brand new user interface, or UI, for the platforms while maintaining the gameplay that made the PS4 version popular. According to a report from GameSpot, “Galak-Z: Mobile Variant” will be coming to both iOS and Android devices right away.

Gameplay is where “Galak-Z” excelled, as it played like a 2D sidescrolling shooter but also gave players puzzles to solve and the ability to transform into a mech. The game was clearly inspired by Japanese anime like “Robotech,” since that series also featured similar mechs with the same abilities.

The game’s plot is also very anime-inspired, as it features a pilot named Adam “A-Tak” Takamoto attempting to warn Earth about an alien invasion. This is the basis for the whole game, as Takamoto and his robot must take on alien forces while also attempting to head home and warn his kind about the arriving forces.

It’s worth noting that “Galak-Z” was supposed to come to the PlayStation Vita around the same time as the PS4 but was cancelled, according to Eurogamer. 17-Bit stated that the Unity engine wasn’t working too well with the Vita, which led to the cancellation of the Vita port. Since a number of mobile games for iOS and Android use the Unity engine, it’s easy to see why the developer opted to go for the mobile version instead.

“Galak-Z: The Dimensional” was launched on Aug. 4 for the PS4 and was a big hit upon release. Whether the mobile port manages to have the same success is another matter. No official release date was given for the mobile port of the game, but 17-Bit promised that it would come sometime in 2016.
