Mads Mikkelsen hinted at a popular fan theory about his character in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” The actor previously spilled the beans by revealing that he is playing the role of the protagonist Jyn Erso’s father.

[Spoiler alert]

Mikkelsen plays the role of a character named Galen Erso, who is father of the protagonist Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones). Jyn is the leader of a team of Rebels who are tasked with stealing the plans of the Death Star, a huge battle station in space constructed by the Empire to intimidate the rebellious planets of the galaxy.

Jyn is not a Rebel soldier, but she was specifically chosen for this mission. There has been some speculation in the fan base of the franchise about why it was important for the Rebels to seek an outsider to lead the group.

Speaking with Radio Times at the London Film and Comic-con, Mikkelsen teased that his character is a scientist in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” The actor further teased that those who have watched the other movies from the franchise will be able to “add two and two.”

The actor may be talking about the theory of why Jyn was chosen for the mission. It is being speculated that Galen was a scientist working for the Empire and had intimate knowledge about the construction of the Death Star.

As Galen’s daughter, Jyn is expected to know the Death Star better than anyone, making it easier for her to get into the battle station and steal the plans. The battle station was initially designed by Geonosians, but Galen may have taken over as the lead designer later.

Mikkelsen pointed out that there is a huge anticipation for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” He also added that the eager fans love the franchise so much that they feel they “own it” and it is “part of the family.” This makes some fans wanting to know everything about the movie before they see it.
