Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka will renew their rivalry during Sunday's BNP Paribas Open final at Indian Wells in the tournament's first all-countrymen final since 2001 when Americans Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras competed for the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title. The 35-year-old Federer is attempting to become the oldest player to win an ATP Masters 1000 title.

The odds are heavily stacked against the third-seeded Wawrinka. Federer owns a 19-3 head-to-head record against his fellow Swissman, including victories in their past three meetings, which includes the 2017 Australian Open semi-final. Wawrnka, a three-time Grand Slam champion in his own right, has overcome Federer only thrice in his career (all three victories on clay courts). Though Wawrinka is the higher seed, Federer enters Sunday's Indian Wells final as the prohibitive favourite, especially after his convincing, straight-set victories over Rafael Nadal (fourth round) and Jack Sock (semi-final).

Roger Federer looking for career 90th title

Incidentally, modern tennis greats Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have won 12 of the past 13 Indian Wells titles dating back to 2004 when the Swiss master captured the first of his four titles at the scenic California venue. A victory on Sunday would give Federer a record-tying fifth Indian Wells championship, his 25th ATP Masters 1000 crown and 90th overall title in his illustrious career. According to several reports, Federer would jump from No. 10 to No. 7 in the ATP World Rankings with a victory on Sunday.

Federer is currently third behind Jimmy Connors (109) and Ivan Lendl (94) for most ATP tour titles in the Open era. "It's not a goal of mine per se to play until I reach 100. Could be. It's a nice goal to have. But that stuff can change. Ask me again in three to six months how I'm feeling, if I won any more or not," said Federer, who skipped last year's Indian Wells event due to an injury, is thrilled to back at one of his favourite venue to entertain the fans. "I was just happy to be feeling healthy again at the end of last year. I was just happy to be playing another 10 events maybe. "

Despite dominating Wawrinka over the years, Federer expects a tough battle on Sunday. "Stan is going to be very different from Jack (Sock). He doesn't hit with much spin. He blocks first serves. He can play from deep or from on the baseline," Federer said of his opponent, via ESPN, ahead of Sunday's Indian Wells final. Check below for official Indian Wells final live streaming links.
