World No. 5 Roger Federer will face big-serving Canadian Milos Raonic in the quarter-final of the 2017 Wimbledon on Wednesday. Federer, the pre-tournament favourite, is just three wins away from winning an unprecedented seventh Wimbledon title.

A year ago, Raonic beat Federer in the semi-final before losing to eventual champion Andy Murray in the final. Raonic overwhelmed the Swiss Master with explosive serves of up to 231 kpmh (144 mph) and hit 23 aces during his 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory. Following that defeat, Federer took a six-month hiatus from the sport to recover from arthroscopic knee surgery. A rejuvenated Federer returned at the start of 2017 to win the Australian Open, Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open, before marching to Wimbledon in terrific shape.

Federer, who has yet to drop a set in the 2017 Wimbledon, has devised a special game plan to tackle Raonic's serving game. “I have got to bring the intensity and focus that I have shown throughout this tournament. The mentality on the first and second serve, make very few wrong decisions and have an understanding of what to do at what stage. Then on the return, keep going for it and keep staying aggressive. With a positive attitude I believe good things can happen," the 18-time Grand Slam champion said on the eve of the quarter-final.

According to a plethora of analysts, Raonic is the most likely player to break the stranglehold of the Big 4 over Wimbledon. Since 2002, Roger Federer (7), Rafael Nadal (2), Novak Djokovic (3) and Andy Murray (2) have dominated proceedings at the All-England Tennis Club. Could this be Raonic's year?

Raonic, currently ranked seventh in the world, realises that he would have to get past the Big 4 to cement his legacy. Roger has been the best player this year hands down. But it is not about six months or whatnot; it comes down to one day. I have just got to try to find a way to try to be better on the day.”

A day before the highly-anticipated rematch, Raonic admitted that last year's victory is distant memory. "It's far removed from the last time we played. Things are a little bit different, sort of, in terms of momentum for both of us. Roger's been the best player I think this year, hands down, when he's been on court. But it's not about [the season]. I've just got to try to find a way to try to be better on that day."

Roger Federer's quarter-final fixture would be Wednesday's second match on Centre Court. Andy Murray, the co-favourite to prevail on Sunday, would collide with American Sam Querrey in the first Round of 8 match of the day.
