World No. 5 Roger Federer will face Serbia's Dusan Lajovic in the second round of the 2017 Wimbledon on Thursday. Federer, eyeing a record eighth Wimbledon championship, faced little trouble putting away Alexandr Dolgopolov in the first-round (6-3, 3-0) after the unseeded Ukrainian retired in the second set.

Federer will turn 36 this August. But that hasn't deterred odds makers, analysts and former players from earmarking him as the favourite to prevail in the third Grand Slam of the year. Federer entered the year as World No. 17 before capturing the Australian Open, Miami Masters, Indian Wells Masters and Halle Open while also missing the entity of the clay-court season including the French Open.

The 18-time Grand Slam champion has maintained a 24-2 win/loss record in 2017. He arrived in SW19, his happiest hunting ground through two decades in the sport, with a legitimate chance to win Grand Slam No. 19 and re-write the history books for the umpteenth time in his storied career.

Lajovic is a 27-year-old Serbian who excels on clay. He previously reached two ATP finals -- losing at the Croatia Open in 2014 before winning the Istanbul Open a year later. He also reached the fourth-round at French Open 2014. The match against Federer marks only his second appearance in the second-round at the All-England Tennis Club. They have never met before.

Meanwhile, Federer feels the return of the Big 4 (Novak Djokovic, Andy Murry, Rafael Nadal and Federer) to the Top-4 seeds of this year's Wimbledon is a healthy sign for the sport. "I think mind, fitness, tenacity, then talent as well (is what makes them so dominant). Put them all together, it’s hard to crack us four consistently down. If you beat one of us, you might not beat the next guy.

"Plus we play all very different. I don’t know, pick me, Rafa, Novak, how different we all play for one another. For a player to run through the three of us is extremely difficult. If you’re ranked lower than us, that’s who you have to beat maybe on the way to win the tournament. It just seems pretty rough," said Federer.

On Thursday, Roger Federer's second-round match is the final scheduled match on Centre Court. The fourth day of the 2017 Wimbledon gets underway at 1 p.m. British Standard Time (BST) and 10 p.m. Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).
