Roger Federer considered his most recent win at the ATP Swiss Indoors in Basel against Rafael Nadal is one of the best victory in his hometown and admitted that it was “fantastic” playing the Spaniard at this stage of his career.

Federer won his seventh Basel title after he defeated career rival Nadal in the final round of the Swiss Indoors 6-3 5-7 6-3. It was the Swiss Maestro’s fist win ever since bowing out in the final of the US Open against Novak Djokovic, which was followed by a shocking second round defeat from Albert Ramos-Vinolas at the Shanghai Rolex Masters.

It was probably my best victory and one of my best weeks in Basel, considering everything I’ve done throughout my career here,” Federer told Tennis World USA. “To have this final against Nadal here makes it very special.”

Federer, who has always been ready to face retirement from tennis, also hinted about extending his playing future until the next three years. According to Chris Chase of the USA Today’s For The Win, Federer is leaning toward playing until 2018, when a 10,000-seater arena at St. Jakobshalle in his hometown is scheduled to complete.

“That would be a good goal to which I could work towards,” Federer said. “The Swiss Indoors was one of my first tournaments on the tour, and I hope that they will also be one of the last.”

Federer will join Djokovic, Nadal, and Andy Murray at the BNB Paris Masters, where he faces Andreas Seppi in the second round after receiving a bye in the tournament.

Nadal, who also received a bye, is set to battle Lukas Rosol, who defeated Guillermo Garcia Lopez 6-2 2-6 6-4, while Djokovic set up a match against Gilles Simon in the round of 16 after defeating Thomaz Belluci 7-5 6-3. Murray faces Borna Coric, who overcame Fernando Verdasco with a 6-3 6-3 victory.
