Seventeen-time grand slam champion Roger Federer has aired his side regarding Boris Becker’s comments about him and Novak Djokovic not getting along very well. According to Federer, he doesn’t have a problem with the current World No. 1 Serbian tennis star.

Speaking in an interview with Swiss media outlet Bernerzeitung, Federer said that it is not necessary to lash out such comments, which appeared on Becker’s new book “Wimbledon: My Life and Career at the All England Club.” Federer said that Becker cannot possibly know if he has a problem with Djokovic. He added that they have different set of friends, but they talk when they meet like normal people would.

Federer also responded on Becker’s claim that he hides his true character to portray an image just to be liked by everybody. He insisted that Becker doesn’t know him well enough to say things about his personality. Federer said that he is always pleasant and friendly towards other people. He admitted that he gets annoyed by little things, but also said that it is normal to get angry and lose control sometimes.

In another interview with USA Today Sports, Federer further elaborated on his thoughts about Becker’s comments. He said he doesn’t have a clue what the former tennis player-turned coach was trying to say. All he knows is that he maintains an amicable relationship with Becker, whom he looked up to as a kid.

"Maybe it’s a big misunderstanding, maybe it’s something he truly feels is the case,” Federer lamented. “All I know is that I was brought up to be polite and to respect everybody, I feel like it’s important to be a role model for kids, if that’s a problem, I’m sorry.”

Federer is currently playing at the 2015 Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany. He reached the last eight in his bid to win an eighth title in the tennis event, where he is the defending champion. Federer, who is the top seed, cruised past the early rounds to reach the quarterfinals. Federer beat Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6 3-6 7-6 and Ernests Gulbis 6-3 7-5 to advance. Federer will play Florian Mayer next.
